By all means take good care of yourself! You've done a tremendous service by alerting people to the potential impact of the rule changes. You deserve to take a good step back, catch your breath. And be proud of yourself for what you've accomplished here!
Your Substack and your teaching helped us know how to write the comments, and to the extent those comments collectively change the proposed rule to something less bad, your teaching and participation here made the difference. Thank you for doing it. Thank you for inadvertently sticking your neck out.
Thank you for raising the OMB alarm. I suspect 500,000 rule comments is a historical record! Relax, and the rest of us can fill the gap pending your recovery. Job well done!
Thank you so much for your courage, initiative and all your work. My life and work has been deeply and negatively affected by these cuts. My kids are studying the sciences in college. These proposed are affecting their future.
Taking care of yourself has to be priority #1. Your writings were PROFOUNDLY helpful in my thinking through what I wanted to say about the OMB proposal. Your experience and insight will continue to be a valuable resource for the larger scientific community. But you have to take care of yourself. Whatever and whenever you decide to post on this Substack...I will read it. And think deeply about your words.
Thank you for what you have done to try to protect the integrity and creativity of scientific research. It will come out right, but I'm afraid only because of fighters like you.
Thank you, Liz, for all the work you did on the OMB matter and analyses of NIH funding issues before that. Do take a deep breath and take care of yourself. You did a great service, and I expect you will do more in the future.
Thank you for all you have done. It has been EXTREMELY valuable, and historically and politically important. I urge you now to begin to charge for your Substack posts. And I go back to my first comment yo you: please publish a book on your experiences. I am an academic who was Editor of OSIRIS for 11 years and can put you in touch with publishers.
Thanks for doing this work. I have always had great respect for Program Officers. Many PO I knew well went to University Research Administration and seemed ro be happy. I am sorry your job search has not been successful. You have shown great commitment to NIH and great personal strength. Good Luck. Jeff Frelinger
Thank you for what you’ve done, both in your career and since you left. You provided inspiration and guidance for a lot of us who are in the field and are very concerned about what’s going on. Please take care of yourself!
You are an inspiration and an incredible scientist, civil servant and person. We are here for you ..and if and when you need, have your back ..
I mourn the loss to our nation’s government of a person of your integrity, abilities, and experience.

Thank you for making everyone aware of these rule changes, what they mean and also giving insights into this process.
You are a hero. That you have received threats is disgusting and disgraceful. Thank you for your courage and good sense.
